Health and Lifestyle: The most spoken but seldom realized jargon

What is Good health? It’s a question that most of us come across almost everyday. After all, what exactly do we mean by saying improve your health and lifestyle? Together, let’s embark on this journey to find out what health and lifestyle really mean in today’s world.

When newspapers and television channels recently flashed that using mobile phones could cause cancer, where you shocked? When you come across celebrities on-air or on-field and you gaze at them, do you turn to yourself and ask why can’t you be as thin or as built as they are? When you see a weighing machine, do you want to run away? Last but not the least, if the escalators of the shopping mall stop functioning, do you decide against shopping at all? Well, if you are caught in such situations and a few more like these most often, then you are in dire need of some health and lifestyle in your life.

But nonetheless, it is also important to understand how much of a health and lifestyle dose is really right. Well, I might sound very colloquial when saying this but the truth, is that like the same colors don’t suit all of us, similarly, same type of fitness regime and lifestyle changes too doesn’t suit all of us alike. Therefore, doesn’t mean if Kareena Kapoor acquired size –zero and SRK has six pack abs, then that is good health and all of us must follow their regime. In fact it doesn’t even mean that they themselves are in good health, don’t we remember the news reports about Kareena fainting on her movie sets and Shahrukh suffering from severe back pain. So this too is not good health or right lifestyle.

Moving on to another domain, from films to cricket, let’s try to understand the importance of health and fitness in the lives of cricketers. Ever saw Sachin or Dhoni endorsing body building? The maximum we see them doing is skipping, playing, and dancing (with cute looking co-stars) to endorse health drinks, watch, cold drinks, and mobile phones, but seldom do we try to read between the lines.

Imagine the life of your favorite cricket star. If today he is playing in India then the next week he is in South Africa. Two countries that have stark climatic difference. But doesn’t he still play in the best of his health? The only thing that helps keep him in good shape is the balance. The balance in diet, the balance in extravagant lifestyle, and the balance in use of luxury. Not that all of them follow the balance theory religiously, otherwise how do we explain the injury worries that haunt team India regularly. But those who do shine on field and others too don’t take long before falling in line.

Therefore, what comes as a summation of all of this is, good health and a good lifestyle is in finding the right balance! If one is able to sleep peacefully, wake-up energetically, eat three meals a day without complaining of indigestion, climb up stairs without any hesitation, and live a pain-free life, then one is in good health and following a healthy lifestyle.
